Leadership: Nobody here is better than the others; everybody in this company carries the load of the good and bad jobs we do. Management won’t ask employees to do something they wouldn’t do themselves.    

Profitability: We are a for-profit company and all of the aspects above factor into our success. We will never be the cheapest in town, but our price reflects the quality-of-service level we can offer. 

In 2001, Andy Birkholz started push mowing lawns in his neighborhood to help pay for his first vehicle. After a few years of getting started in the lawn care industry, he graduated high school and took evening small business classes. This class helped him write a business plan and file all the proper paperwork with the State of Minnesota. This education also helped him learn how to use Quickbooks software for billing and accounts payable. The lawn knowledge and know-how were self-taught and mostly trial by error.   

In the first 15 years, most of the business income went back into equipment to help make the job easier and faster. We always worked harder to afford the bigger piece of equipment to take the business to the next level.    

Andy had seasonal employees for the first 8 years to help with the mowing and snow plowing. In 2014, Andy took on his first full-time employee to help keep up with the business's growth. Dane and Andy have been lifelong friends with similar goals for the company. We combined our knowledge and can-do attitude to excel in this business and become a regional leader in the market. Andy's Lawn & Snow now proudly has 15 full-time and 20 part-time employees.
